Essentially, laminate flooring is imitation hardwood or mineral flooring composed of a fiber core body with a layer of print (which gives it its appearance) and a coating of melamine laminate.  It is a popular flooring option because of its durability, easiness to maintain, and (perhaps most of all) its price.  Laminate flooring allows your home the appearance of ceramic or hardwood flooring without the steep price demanded by either of them.
